I was a sinner, deserving of death. There was nothing I could do to pay for my sin. No act of "goodness" would make up for the smallest of my sins. But Jesus Christ died on a cross to pay the price for my sin. Not only that, but he rose again to allow me to share in his eternal life. Now I give him my life daily. I still make mistakes, but God is faithful to forgive my sins. And with his help, through the Holy Spirit, I will grow closer to him.
Jesus died on the cross for all our sins (past, present, and future). This is a free gift to all of us. All we have to do is:
Before anything else existed, God existed. God is holy and
righteous. God created the physical universe and all that is in it.
In creating mankind, he created something special. A creature that
could either choose to love and honor him or choose to sin (treat God
as someone other than God, or something else as God). Mankind chose
to not believe god (effectively calling him a liar) and thereby acted
as if they were equal to or greater than God. This was sin and
brought the penalty of death into their lives. Spiritual death
(seperation from God) was immediate. Physical death followed later.
Each human has made the same mistake (sin). Each has been sentenced
to the same penalty.
However, God loved us. Being holy, he could not overlook our
sin. So he became human (sent his son, Jesus). Jesus was fully human
and fully God. He did not sin. As the only sinless man, only he could
pay for our sin. Because he loved us, he died in our place. This way
the death penalty for sin was paid, an God could count us as without
sin.
Even more, Jesus demonstrated that he was greater than death. He
arose on the third day. He went to heaven. He now provides his Holy
Spirit to help those who have accepted his gift of life and payment
for sin.
When all the peoples of the earth have heard the saving news of
Jesus, he will come again to judge. Each human will go to one of two
places. They will either go to be with the Lord forever. Or they will
go to a place of punishment forever.
The choice is yours. Now. Once you die, or when he comes is too
late.
